Overview

The CSF, founded in 1921, is the oldest scholarship institution in the state of California and emphasizes high scholarship standards and community service for high school students across the state.

Membership in CSF shows that you’re dedicated to academic excellence and community service, both strong indicators of motivation, good character, positive personality and healthy ambition. If you’re planning on going to college or a technical school, membership in the CSF is worth considering for your post-high school future.

Qualifications

The EHS CSF Club requires a $5 membership fee to join the club. Monies collected from membership fees are applied to state dues that must be paid on a yearly basis in order for the EHS CSF Chapter to remain active.

According to the official CSF website:

  • The student’s record for the previous semester must have no grades lower than C.
  • Grades earned in physical education, courses taken in lieu of physical education, subjects repeated to improve a grade, courses involving clerking or office/teacher assistance, and courses taken on a pass/fail basis shall not count for CSF points.
  • Students in the second semester of the tenth grade, and in grades eleven and twelve … who meet the requirements shall be eligible for semester membership. 
  • Associate members shall be second semester ninth graders and first semester tenth graders whose grades meet CSF requirements, and also junior high transfers in their first semester of attendance who are Honor Members of the California Junior Scholarship Federation.
  • The number of points required for membership shall be ten, with a minimum of seven points in academic subjects. CSF points shall be calculated as follows:
    • A grade of “A” in a subject that grants 5 semester credits = 3 points
    • A grade of “B” in a subject that grants 5 semester credits = 1 point
    • A grade of “C” in a subject that grants 5 semester credits = 0 points
    • A grade of “D” or “F” in any subject, including P.E., repeated courses, or work experience for pay, shall automatically make a student ineligible for that semester.
  • A student may become a member of CSF by securing a membership application, recording grades and activities, and returning it to the sponsor along with a check for the CSF fee ($5) amount made payable to Escalon High School. 
  • Lifetime membership in CSF may be obtained by qualifying for regular membership during four of the six semesters of the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. One of these must be in the 12th grade.
